From message to moment.

Working from the initial material, we developed the production approach and storyboards, identifying how each idea could become a scene, interaction, interview or visual moment.

Instead of a large production footprint inside an operational healthcare environment, we designed a lean video setup. Preparation kept the day structured; the challenge was keeping a consistent, human visual language across both films.

The films were created in the context of UAE healthcare recognition around innovation and sector development. One of the two productions went on to receive the recognition it was created to compete for. For us, the project demonstrated something broader:

Healthcare organisations communicate complex ideas every day. Patient experience. Digital transformation. Innovation. Service improvement. Technology. All of them matter. But a film can’t rely on terminology alone. People need to be able to see what those ideas mean. That was the starting point when Sahab brought GOMBOC into the production of two films for Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital. The project already had scripts and clear communication objectives. Our role was to help translate those ideas into something visual, human and producible.

A written idea has to become a physical moment.

A script can move from one subject to another in a sentence. Production can’t. Every sentence has consequences. Where does this scene happen? Who needs to be there? What is the audience seeing while they hear this information? Does it need an interview? A patient interaction? A technology demonstration? A transition between departments? Working from the original scripts, we adapted the material into storyboards and production-ready sequences. Part of that process involved identifying moments that needed to be recreated specifically for filming. Rather than relying on real patients during genuine healthcare experiences, scenarios could be carefully staged for the production. That gave the team control over the storytelling while respecting the environment we were working in.

Then everything had to fit into one day.

Across both films, there were numerous elements to capture. Different scenes. Different spaces. Interviews. People. Operational environments. And a hospital is not a film set. It continues functioning while you’re filming inside it. So instead of bringing in a large crew that would take time and space to move between environments, we designed the production around a lean four-person video team. The smaller footprint allowed us to move faster. But a smaller crew only works when the preparation is strong. Everyone needed to understand what was being captured, what was coming next and how the different sequences would eventually connect. The storyboard therefore became both a creative guide and a production map.

Throughout the day, we moved between the planned sequences and interviews while maintaining a consistent visual language across both films. The objective wasn’t to make healthcare look artificially cinematic. It was to find the human element inside the information. Technology matters because of what it enables. A process matters because of what it changes for someone. Patient experience matters because there is actually a person experiencing it. Those ideas informed how we approached the images.

The films had a purpose beyond publication.

The productions were also connected to the hospital’s participation in UAE healthcare recognition around digital innovation and sector development. That meant the films needed to do more than look polished. They needed to communicate progress clearly. One of the two productions ultimately went on to receive the recognition it had been created to compete for. For us, that outcome reinforces something we believe about institutional communication. Complexity isn’t necessarily the enemy. Healthcare is complex because healthcare itself is complex. The creative job is not to pretend otherwise. It’s to find the structure inside that complexity and give people a clear way into it.
